Even by the standards of these Classic Monster publications, the love that has been poured into creating this tome is palpable. The text is packed with the various filmic journeys taken by Universal and other companies in their bid to exploit the burgeoning world of horror, through its silent beginnings and hits and misses, alongside Universal’s own mixed fortunes.
Depicting the various highs and lows of the actors that brought such terrors to life, the individual chapters list films we know and love and others we may never see. As always, the photographic stills featured are gorgeous. Some we’ve seen before, others we haven’t.

A beautifully compiled survey of the early years of horror. Insightful history is allied to well chosen photographs and what also has to be emphasised is the superb quality of the paper finish which makes both the text and photographs really stand out. Exceptional work.
